Into the Crucible, the Refiner's Flames

January 18, 2016

The Crucible blog is my way of sharing with a modern society the ancient truth of the Holy Scriptures. I hope through these pages we can learn together about how much God loves us and provides a clear path to living a great life.

And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin: Isaiah 1:25

The refiner’s skill was essential to the working of the precious metals. The goal was to separate the dross from the unrefined ore. This was accomplished by reducing the metal to a fluid state by the application of extreme heat, and by adding solvents, such as alkali or lead. The mixing of the solvents with the dross permitted the extraction of the base metal. The Refinement Process required the firing up of the crucible (furnace) to extreme temperatures.

So, you may ask, what does all that have to do with me? Your heart is like that unrefined metal. It is filled with impurities (envy, greed, lusts, hatred, even addictions). It requires a process whereby those impurities can be separated and removed from your heart. Just like there is a refiner that purifies the silver and gold, there is The Refiner, who purifies the human heart.

And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness. Malachi 3:3

The refiner sat near his work so he was better able to watch the process, and let the metal run off at the proper moment. The crucible is the place where He does His best work. The end results was the valuable pure silver or gold.

Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have tested you in the furnace of affliction. Isaiah 48:10
